The Army must reject inhumane treatment

It is appalling that those in charge of updating the Army Field Manual would even consider any inhumane interrogation techniques regardless of prisoner status. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) got it right: No torture, period.
We are a moral people, and we should lead by example. If we disregard the spirit of the Geneva Convention, we place our armed forces at greater risk of mistreatment. Those we have detained and tortured bear with them the smoldering embers of resentment, which can only ignite new insurgencies and civil wars. What’s happening to us as a fundamentally moral, compassionate people?

Torture is wrong. In the proposed Army Field Manual, is the Department of Defense trying to make the behavior of the troops fit the rules, or make the rules fit the behavior?
