Sanctions Won’t Work, Defiant President Says

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned that sanctions would not stop Iran from enriching uranium after a European negotiator acknowledged that “endless hours” of talks had made little progress and suggested the dispute could wind up at the United Nations soon.
The talks had been seen as a last-ditch attempt to avoid a confrontation between Iran and the Security Council after Tehran ignored an August deadline.
European Union envoy Javier Solana, who has been negotiating with the Iranians, told the European Parliament that the dialogue “cannot last forever.”
