The Orange County coroner’s office is investigating the deaths of two 18-year-old men who died after the truck they were riding in crashed and caught fire early Sunday.
A 27-year-old man was driving a Ford truck south on the 405 Freeway near Seal Beach Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. when he tried to pass a Chevrolet truck. The Ford veered to the right and struck the left front of the Chevrolet.
Both vehicles went off the road. The Ford overturned, struck a tree and caught on fire.
The two 18-year-olds are believed to have burned to death, and the driver survived with major injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 33-year-old Santa Ana man and his passengers, a 34-year-old Santa Ana woman and a 12-year-old girl, were injured.
The Highway Patrol did not release any names.
