Southland theater: Lori Monnier, managing director of the Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, has been appointed general manager of South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, the theater announced. Monnier replaces Nicki Genovese, who left the company in December to join the Public Theater in New York City.

Bay Area opera: Italian-born Nicola Luisotti will succeed Donald Runnicles as San Francisco Opera’s music director; Runnicles’ tenure as music director and principal conductor will end at the close of the company’s 2008-09 season.
