A war tax

Re “This war needs price controls,” Opinion, Jan. 10
Bruce Ackerman has the right idea by calling on Congress to put a limit on President Bush’s war spending. However, I think Congress should go one step further and make it Bush’s responsibility to finance his continuing folly.
If Bush wishes to continue the war, he should be required to propose a tax that will pay for it. Otherwise Congress should say, “Read my lips, no new troops.” As commander in chief he may have the right to wage war as he sees fit, but he should not be allowed to defer the inevitable tax increase to the Democrat who will doubtless succeed him.
