Another signal of a backlash

In addition to all the problems in the Middle East and Asia, President Bush’s mishandling of foreign policy has also created an emerging problem for the U.S. in Latin America. On Sept. 12, 2001, most of Latin America and the world either stood with us or at least was not openly hostile to us. New Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa’s hostile stance toward the U.S. is just the latest example of an unfriendly Latin American leader who was able to get himself into office opposing Bush’s aggressive foreign policy. The contested election in Mexico and the completed elections in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela are just the beginning of the bitter harvest we will have to endure because of what Bush has sown.
