Malibu will yabba dabba do ya

Villa Vista Oceano is deceiving. Viewed from the air, it looks as if it could be set in Montecito. Even the name sounds like that of a sprawling Santa Barbara estate.
But it is in Malibu, on a knoll with views of Santa Monica Bay and the cliffs of Point Dume.
As a rental, it has attracted some big names in the music industry.
Stone Temple Pilots recorded “Shangri-La Dee Da” while leasing the property. The name of the 2001 album was thought to be a reference to this mansion, where the band lived and recorded, but guitarist Dean DeLeo got the title from a “Flintstones” episode. Mariah Carey also leased the home for a short time.
About this home: The gated Mediterranean-style villa was built in 1978 on about 19 ocean-view acres. The compound has a detached guest cottage, a gym, a lighted tennis court, a pool and a vineyard.
Asking price: $12.5 million
Size: The main house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms in 6,991 square feet.
Features: The home also has orchards, lawns, a spa, stables, corrals and riding trails to Escondido Creek. And there is a garage for four-plus cars.
Where: Malibu
Listing agent: Gracee Arthur, associate manager of Sotheby’s International Realty, Malibu, (310) 804-0708, and Adriana Daniel of Coldwell Banker Previews, Malibu East, (310) 456-2992.
To submit a candidate for Home of the Week, please send color interior and exterior photos with caption information on a CD and a description of the house, including what makes the property unusual, to Ruth Ryon, Real Estate section, L.A.
