Baton in hand: Edo de Waart, who made his American debut at the Santa Fe Opera in 1971, has been named its chief conductor, effective Oct. 1.
Museum honors: Former NBA star Magic Johnson leads the list of people named Tuesday as recipients of the National Civil Rights Museum’s annual Freedom Awards. Also named were historian John Hope Franklin and Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
