Coming to defense of the Stooges

ALEX VAN DYNE states in his opening diatribe condemning the Stooges, that they “are of no importance whatsoever.” [Letters, March 11] I have been following Iggy Pop since the ‘70s, and uphold him as a hero, a survivor and a man of great creative genius.
Van Dyne’s description of my people as “cretinous know nothings” and “losers” makes him an infantile name-caller. His perfect yuppie world wants to exterminate noisy, rebellious music and replace it all with their brand of boring easy-listening music.
Iggy’s music is full of rock poetry, originality and energy. Anyway, neither he nor I have any impetus to impress some anonymous self-important jerk. He can just put his Wynton CD in his BMW and go back to sleep.
