Twenty-seven miners were rescued unharmed from a collapsed gold mine today after one of the men used his cellphone to call for help, authorities said.
“I believe the mobile phone reception was quite bad, [but] the call was able to be received,” said police Senior Constable Leigh Wadeson.
The team had been trapped several hundred yards below the surface at the Mount Clear mine in southern Victoria state, authorities said. The cause of the collapse was under investigation.
