New subway line receives funding

The Federal Transit Administration announced it would provide $1.3 billion for New York’s Second Avenue Subway, which would be the city’s first new line since the 1930s.
The new subway is being built to relieve congestion on the Lexington Avenue line, the most crowded in the nation.
The state Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs New York City Transit, operator of the largest U.S. subway network, broke ground in May on the $17-billion project that was first proposed in the early 20th century.
