MORNING BRIEFING

I admire Bill Dwyre not sugarcoating his comments regarding Santa Anita Derby Day [April 5]. As an employee of Santa Anita we all worked very hard to put on a good show for the 50,915 that enjoyed the top-class racing and the beautiful weather the day provided.
My disappointment is with his comments regarding trainer Julio Canani and an incident that happened four years ago. Julio, currently a 30% win percentage trainer, is nothing short of a class trainer and gentleman who is loved by everyone who comes in contact with him.
If you think Julio Canani would put any horse in a van for a 200-mile round trip days before a race on a harebrained idea of an owner, then Bill, you don’t know Julio Canani.
