ST. PETERSBURG, FLA — . -- On a night the Tampa Bay Rays raised the first AL championship banner in franchise history, Carlos Pena hit a grand slam and drove in six runs Monday night to help the Rays win their home opener by beating the Yankees, 15-5.
The Rays also had 17 hits, stole four bases and impressed Manager Joe Maddon with how well they maintained their focus.
It got so bad for the Yankees that first baseman Nick Swisher pitched, the first New York position player to do so since Wade Boggs in 1997.
