Yankees get their first victory at new stadium

at New York 6, Cleveland 5: Derek Jeter broke an eighth-inning tie with the Yankees’ fifth solo home run and New York won for the first time at its new stadium. Johnny Damon, Mark Teixeira, Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano also homered for the Yankees.

at Seattle 6, Detroit 3: Felix Hernandez survived early struggles and the Mariners used a five-run fifth inning for their seventh victory in eight games.

at Tampa Bay 6, Chicago 5: Ben Zobrist hit a pinch-hit grand slam and Carlos Pena homered for the fifth time in six days for the Rays.

Oakland 8, at Toronto 5: Matt Holliday hit a go-ahead double in the seventh inning and Bobby Crosby drove in three runs for the Athletics.

Kansas City 12, at Texas 3: Gil Meche pitched into the seventh without giving up a run and Mark Teahen was five for six for the Royals.

at Minnesota 11, Angels 9: The Angels’ bullpen gave up nine runs after the fifth inning.
