Thoughts on a tragedy

The Nick Adenhart tragedy has the attention of a large number of people. How can that fact be best used to make his death meaningful?

How about tacking on a $1 surcharge to every alcoholic drink sold at Angel Stadium and using that money to fund the “Nick Adenhart Foundation” and dedicate that foundation to the memory of Nick. Is there anyone who routinely drinks at Angels games unwilling to pay that dollar?

The tragedy of Nick Adenhart goes way beyond him and his friends. The tragedy is how a society protects itself by not policing the things that do its citizens the most harm. Don’t you think there were numerous drunk people at the Angels game the night he and his friends were killed? Drunk drivers leave every game of every team sport in every season completely wasted and then drive among us? Maybe if the man who killed them had come from the game Adenhart just pitched, that would shake things up.

Lives for the sake of the almighty buck? Is that what we’ve sunk to?
