MORNING BRIEFING

Bill Dwyre’s cry-fest column of one-and-done college basketball players is about as original as an “American Idol” contestant belting out a Whitney Houston song.
Dwyre is upset that young kids have to go to college before getting a job in the NBA. News flash: Everybody who wants a good job has to first attend college. And get this, most of us could perform these jobs without getting the education in the first place. Dare say that the colleges are trying to make money off college kids?
Dwyre also uncovered another hidden gem: The NCAA tournament is in business to make money! You’re kidding!
It’s time to stop pooh-poohing these poor, unfortunate basketball players who are “forced” to go to fabulous universities, given a completely free education and worshiped by the masses. Oh, if life were so tough for the rest of society.

Bill Dwyre, yours was a column that really needed to be written. The NCAA loves to talk about student-athletes, but you can now see a nationally televised basketball game on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, in addition to Thursday and the weekends! With travel, how can those kids possibly do justice to their studies?
