Octuplets’ mom in the spotlight

Re “L.A.’s 8 tiny celebrities,” Feb. 3

Your article refers to media speculation that Nadya Suleman, the mother of octuplets, might be paid as much as $2 million for an interview. Her publicist has stated, presumably with a straight face, that “the money itself is not the object” and “she wants to be sure they are well cared for.”

I have a message for Suleman and her publicist: How about using the $2 million to pay Kaiser Permanente for the care of the mother and her newborns, which, according to media reports, will total millions of dollars?

This absurd sense of entitlement must be addressed by policymakers. Fertilization clinics need to be strictly regulated.

The mother of the octuplets wants her eight new babies, as well as her six other children, to be well cared for, according to her newly hired public relations firm.

Gee, I’m glad she seemingly has taken all the steps generally necessary to ensure that that happens. Well, aside from being married, having a steady income, owning your own place and having just the number of kids you can take care of financially.

And if there’s ever been a more blatantly offensive statement uttered by her public relations spokesperson than “money itself is not the object,” I would like to know what it is.
