The Ahmanson Theatre announced Thursday that its 2009-10 season would consist of four Tony Award-winning musicals -- “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” “Mary Poppins,” “Dreamgirls” and “South Pacific” -- and the 2008 Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “August: Osage County.”
Meanwhile, the musical currently playing at the Ahmanson in downtown L.A., “Minsky’s,” is headed to Broadway, its mixed reviews notwithstanding. A summer or fall New York opening is planned for the production, budgeted at about $11 million.
