I am not a fan or follower of Prince, but he is without question a musician of worthwhile interest and lasting impact [“My Night With Prince” by Ann Powers, Jan. 11]. His effort to release three albums without major label assistance is fascinating, of-the-moment news and I was pleased you were able to devote such a lengthy article to exploring the event.
I would like to have had a little explanation of what Jehovah’s Witness might be understood to be. Ms. Powers is behooved to have given us a paragraph or two to bring it into some focus if it is so central to him that “no topic comes up into which it doesn’t play a role.” I was surprised, also, that while necessarily dwelling at length upon sexuality and women as aspects of Prince’s music and personal life she refrained from explicitly trying to see these through her own habitually used sexual-political lens.
