“Up” was no perpetuation of “tiresome stereotypes of old age,” as Catherine A. Sarkisian claimed in a letter on June 6. And I know, as I am an older person!
How many old people would fly their house to South America? With helium balloons! How many would brave many dangers to rescue a bird, a boy and a dog? With great courage and caring!
I believe that Carl showed ingenuity. He is a wonderful role model for older people!

Norman Jacobson shouldn’t speak for all classical music “aficionados” [Letters, June 6]. I love Beethoven, Mozart and Wagner, but I would be bored to tears hearing “orchestras featur(ing) music by the same composers, over and over.”
In addition to the masters, I want also to hear new composers such as John Adams, Arvo Part and, yes, Esa-Pekka Salonen. To limit oneself to the same old stuff is to remain static, stunted in growth.
