DirecTV Group Inc., the largest U.S. satellite-TV provider, will let some subscribers access applications such as the Flickr photo-sharing website through their televisions.
The El Segundo company will test the feature starting Friday with as many as 20,000 customers. If the trial is successful, it said, the applications will become available Aug. 1 to all DirecTV on-Demand subscribers.
DirecTV will be the first provider of TV programming to offer an application feature, aiming to mimic the success of Apple Inc.’s online App Store.
