Cal State Northridge wins first-place showdown

at Cal State Northridge 95, Long Beach State 74: Tremaine Townsend scored 17 points to lead six players in double figures as the Matadors (14-12, 10-4 Big West) took over first place with two games to play in the regular season. Mark Hill scored a career-high 15 points for Northridge, which shot 62%. The 49ers (14-13, 9-5), who trailed by as many as 28 points, got 19 points from T.J. Robinson and 16 from Larry Anderson.
San Francisco 70, at Pepperdine 62: The loss left the Waves (8-22, 5-9 West Coast Conference) as the sixth-seeded team in the WCC tournament, where they will meet the seventh-seeded Dons (11-18, 3-11) again in a first-round game Friday night at 8 in Las Vegas. Keion Bell scored 18 points for Pepperdine.
St. Mary’s 70, at Loyola Marymount 57: The Lions (3-27, 2-12) finished last in the WCC and will be the eighth-seeded team in the conference tournament. They will play fifth-seeded San Diego in the first round Friday night at 6. Carlin Hughes scored 16 points to lead St. Mary’s (24-5, 10-4), which finished in second place and gets a bye into the conference semifinals.
at UC Irvine 78, UC Riverside 72 (OT): Patrick Rembert scored nine of his 11 points in overtime to lead the Anteaters (11-18, 7-8 Big West) past the Highlanders (16-11, 7-7).
at UC Santa Barbara 66, UC Davis 64: Freshman James Nunnally made seven of 11 shots and scored 18 points off the bench to lead the Gauchos (13-14, 6-8 Big West) past the Aggies (12-17, 7-8).
