A roadside bomb exploded in southern Afghanistan, killing a Canadian soldier and wounding four others, Canadian defense officials said.
The soldiers were in an armored vehicle when the bomb exploded near them in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province, the Canadians said in a statement late Sunday.
The number of roadside bombings was more than 30% higher in 2008 than in 2007.
