L.A. Planning Commission OKs new tower at Cedars Sinai Medical Center

The Los Angeles Planning Commission on Thursday approved the construction of a tower at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and rezoned a vacant Westwood lot so that it can become a city park.
Cedars-Sinai received approval for a 200,000-square-foot expansion that will include 100 new patient beds and 700 parking spaces.
Calling the institution one of the nation’s premier hospitals, Councilman Jack Weiss told the panel that he was “proud that the hospital received widespread support from the surrounding community.”
Also, the commission rezoned as open space a property next to the L.A. Public Library branch in Westwood.
The parcel, at the northeast corner of Glendon and Wellworth avenues, had been zoned for a single-family home, but residents have pushed for creation of an outdoor “reading garden.” The city bought the land in 2007 using funds collected from nearby developments.
A task force is continuing discussions on a design for the park.
