Former 1970s radical Sara Jane Olson returned to her adopted home state of Minnesota on Wednesday, one day after she was paroled from a California prison.
KMSP-TV reported that Olson and her husband arrived at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport early Wednesday evening, but declined to speak to the station’s crew before driving away.
Olson, 62, served half of a 14-year sentence in the deadly 1975 robbery of a Sacramento-area bank and in the placing of pipe bombs under Los Angeles police cars.
At the time, Olson was known as Kathleen Soliah, a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army, a violent group best known for kidnapping heiress Patty Hearst.
Olson left California the same day the L.A. police union released a letter asking Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to review whether it is legal for California to let Olson serve her one-year parole in Minnesota. The Los Angeles Police Protective League said Olson should not be allowed to go home given that she was a fugitive and not a legal resident at the time of her 1999 arrest in St. Paul, where she was living underground.
