Authorities on Long Island said an off-duty police officer saved a family when he noticed smoke coming from their home and woke them up.
Nassau County authorities said the officer was on his way home when he saw smoke at the East Rockaway home. They said he banged on the door until the residents woke.
Two adults and three teens escaped without injury. The officer’s name wasn’t immediately disclosed.
