Pac-10 allows Blount to rejoin Oregon

Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, who was suspended for the season after punching a Boise State player in the wake of the season opener, has been allowed to rejoin the Ducks.

The university requested Blount’s reinstatement, which was approved by Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott on Monday.

Blount will be able to play for the No. 14 Ducks on Saturday night when they play host to Arizona State. He missed eight games.

Blount issued a statement saying he was grateful to Oregon Coach Chip Kelly for giving him a second chance.

“Now it is up to me to prove to people that their lasting impressions of me are not what they saw in Boise,” he said.

Two coaches fired

Memphis fired Coach Tommy West, saying the school wants to go in a different direction after the season.

Also, Western Kentucky fired David Elson as coach, though he will finish out the remainder of a horrific season in which the Hilltoppers have struggled to make the transition to major college football.

Wisconsin suspends Moore after arrest

Wisconsin wide receiver Maurice Moore has been indefinitely suspended by Badgers Coach Bret Bielema following his arrest on suspicion of drunk driving over the weekend.

Bielema said that he has not yet talked to the fourth-year junior, who was in an accident early Sunday and taken to a Madison hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Report: Michigan AD shoved students

Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin pushed a student and grabbed the wind breaker of another student during two football games when he was asked to provide required passes, according to a department of public safety report.

The students said they were uninjured and did not want to press charges.

“I contacted those involved to discuss the situation and express my regret,” Martin said in a statement released by the school. “I know they were just doing their jobs.”

Cincinnati’s Pike to start when healthy

A day after suggesting otherwise, Coach Brian Kelly decided Tony Pike will be Cincinnati’s starting quarterback when he’s healthy.

Kelly had considered letting sophomore backup Zach Collaros keep the job after he led the fifth-ranked Bearcats to a 47-45 win over Connecticut.

It’s unclear when Pike will be ready to play.
