An inmate who died in triple-digit heat after four hours in an outdoor holding cell had first- and second-degree burns on her face and body and a core body temperature of 108 degrees, an autopsy found.
Marcia Powell, 48, died May 20 at the Perryville prison in Goodyear. She collapsed in the heat and died at a hospital the next day. She was serving a 27-month sentence for prostitution.
