Double threat Kinne leads Tulsa over Tulane, 37-13

G.J. Kinne ran for one touchdown and threw for another in his debut as Tulsa quarterback, and the Golden Hurricane defeated Tulane, 37-13, at New Orleans in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Kinne, who sat out last season after transferring from Texas, passed for 211 yards and rushed for 77.
Damaris Johnson returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, highlighting a performance in which he had 161 return yards on punts and kickoffs combined. He also had 60 yards receiving and 31 yards rushing.
Tulane starter Joe Kemp passed for 278 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Casey Robottom.

Quarterback Joe Cox is expected to play in No. 13 Georgia’s opener at No. 9 Oklahoma State today despite suffering flu symptoms that forced him to miss the team’s flight on Friday. Cox, a senior, is entering his first season as a starter after playing behind Matthew Stafford. . . . North Carolina sophomore receiver Dwight Jones will be out two to three weeks after having knee surgery. . . . Virginia Tech redshirt freshman Ryan Williams will start at tailback when the No. 7 Hokies play No. 5 Alabama today at Atlanta, Coach Frank Beamer announced.
