Re: “Vaccinate or Risk It? Parents Weigh Choice” (Sept. 14): The article is an innuendo-filled editorial that wanders off the subject. You note in a few words that the link between autism and vaccines/thimerosal has been disproved, then go on to devote a full section labeled “Wider suspicion” that intones gravely and at considerable length that there are still problems.
You have chosen loaded words like “vaccine cocktail” and stated that the possible presence of tiny amounts of thimerosal may “make some pediatricians and parents squeamish.” There is gratuitous condemnation of “big business” and “corporations” as well as an attack on the FDA saying it may not “operate effectively as an honest broker.”
A dispassionate examination of facts? Hardly. Perhaps drama sells papers in the short term, but it damages your credibility in the end.
