Andy Roddick is returning to the U.S. Davis Cup team in 2011 after skipping the event this year.
In a statement released Thursday by the U.S. Tennis Assn., Roddick called winning the Davis Cup a “top priority” and said he thinks it’s something players “should commit to for the entire season and not when it is convenient.”
The United States and new Coach Jim Courier will play at Chile in the first round March 4-6.
Roddick, a former No. 1-ranked player and the 2003 U.S. Open champion, is 31-11 in Davis Cup play, trailing only John McEnroe (41) for most singles victories. Roddick helped the United States win the 2007 title.
Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin might play doubles together at the 2012 London Olympics. The Belgian stars said at a news conference that they are open to the idea but need to overcome scheduling difficulties.

San Fernando put on probation
San Fernando High has been forced to vacate its City Section wrestling championship from 2010, and the entire sports program has been put on two years’ probation after the City rules committee concluded that the Tigers used an ineligible athlete, wrestler Sultan Muhammad, for four years, according to City Section Commissioner Barbara Fiege. She did not disclose why he was ineligible.
Muhammad was declared ineligible for all seasons of sports in which he participated at San Fernando. All football games in which Muhammad played during the 2009-10 season will be considered forfeits. All points he scored as an individual in wrestling will be removed. The entire sports program was put on probation from Nov. 30, 2010, through Nov. 30, 2012, “due to lack of administrative oversight.”
San Fernando had its wrestling team championship from 2010 vacated because the points scored by Muhammad contributed to the victory. San Fernando had won five consecutive City wrestling titles.

The Galaxy has said Beckham will not be available to go on loan during Major League Soccer’s off-season after he was injured during a stint with AC Milan in March.
Sacramento Kings assistant coach Mario Elie was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
The California Highway Patrol said Elie, 47, was taken into custody at 1:15 a.m. Thursday in downtown Sacramento after an officer pulled him over for a broken taillight. The officer reported smelling alcohol in the car and said Elie showed signs of being intoxicated.
The CHP says a breath test showed the first-year Kings coach had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08%.
Elie was booked into Sacramento County Jail and released after posting bail.
Former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, 48, will fight Sherman Williams on Jan. 22 at the Greenbrier in West Virginia, the resort said.
