Oprah Winfrey has just given a shot in the arm to the Telluride and Mountain Village, Colo., real estate markets with the $10.85 million purchase of nearly 60 acres of land.
The acreage, two contiguous parcels along a ski run, is in the town of Mountain Village and borders the Telluride Ski Ranches area. The ski-in, ski-out site is suited to a private compound.
Developing the home sites will require construction of a vehicle bridge and one or more hillside driveways.
The neighboring communities are known for their skiing and cultural events such as the Telluride Film Festival. A 13-minute gondola ride connects the towns.
Winfrey previously had property in the area but has not been an owner there recently.
Winfrey, 60, became a household name for her 25 years hosting “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The billionaire philanthropist is chief executive of Harpo Productions and the Oprah Winfrey Network. She owns a 42-acre estate in Montecito, Calif., as well as other properties.
