Nokia could announce Windows Phone 8 devices in early September

Two reports say Nokia could use an event early next month to announce Windows Phone 8 devices that would launch later this year.
The Finnish company is hosting its Nokia World event, which is for its operator and retail partners, on Sept. 5 and 6, which is when WPDang, a Chinese site, reports Nokia will unveil two new phones for its Lumia line, according to The Verge.
Joining WPDang is Bloomberg, which reports Nokia plans to launch Windows Phone 8 devices at the company’s event and have them available for purchase before the holiday shopping season begins.
Nokia’s sales of its current flagship, the Lumia 900, took a hit earlier this summer after Microsoft announced that current Windows phone devices wouldn’t be able to upgrade to the next version of its mobile operating system.
The announcement next month could persuade some potential customers to wait for the next versions of Lumia rather than jump ship.
That could prove tough, though, as Apple is expected to announce the sixth generation of its iPhone at an event on Sept. 12.
As for the actual launch of the new Lumias, Windows Phone 8 is expected to launch around the same time as Windows 8, which has a set launch date of Oct. 26.
