The Hammer Museum will be changing its daily hours of operation, keeping its doors open one hour later on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while cutting back on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The new hours will be permanent and are scheduled to take effect starting Saturday, which is the opening day of its inaugural biennial, “Made in L.A. 2012.”
General admission will remain the same at $10. The Hammer is free for all visitors on Thursdays.
The museum’s new hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. On Saturdays and Sundays, it will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays.
The Hammer’s current operating hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
A spokeswoman at the Hammer said the changes are intended to accommodate visitors coming from across town. Beginning in the fall, all of the museum’s public programs in the evenings will start at 7:30 p.m. instead of 7.
Parking rates will remain unchanged at the Hammer. The rate is $3 for the first three hours with museum validation and $1.50 for each additional 15 minutes. After 6 p.m., the flat rate is $3. The rate is $3 on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Getty Center announced separately this week that it will be open until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays this summer, starting Friday and ending Sept. 21.
