Dallas Cowboys unveil Anish Kapoor sculpture at AT&T; Stadium

The Dallas Cowboys football team has welcomed a new addition to its home at AT&T; Stadium. “Sky Mirror,” a large-scale reflective sculpture by the British artist Anish Kapoor, was recently unveiled at the Cowboys’ stadium as part of a contemporary-art initiative by the team’s owners, Gene and Jerry Jones.

“Sky Mirror,” which is located at the east plaza of AT&T; Stadium, is a version of Kapoor’s concept that has been seen in Nottingham, England; the Hermitage Museum in Russia; Rockefeller Center in New York; and other venues. The sculpture in Dallas is 35 feet in diameter, with its concave side angled toward the sky.

The artwork is made of stainless steel and weighs 23 tons. The sculpture is part of the Dallas Cowboys Art Collection at AT&T; Stadium, which consists of 56 works, including 16 commissions, by 40 established and emerging artists.

“Sky Mirror,” which is the first outdoor work in the football team’s art collection, was unveiled at a ceremony Friday at the stadium. Kapoor has created numerous sculptures around the world, some featuring reflective surfaces. His most famous sculpture is “Cloud Gate” at Millennium Park in Chicago.

Other artists whose work is represented in the Cowboys’ collection include Gary Simmons, Doug Aitken, Garth Weiser and Franz Ackermann.
