Richard Branson‘s Virgin Group has debuted the trailer for its “Departure Date,” believed to be the first movie to be filmed entirely at 35,000 feet.
As highlighted in an On Location story last month, Virgin’s America, Atlantic and Australian airlines recently teamed up with the company’s new film and TV unit to shoot a half-hour movie that was filmed and edited aboard regularly scheduled commercial flights.
“Departure Date,” directed by Kat Coiro and starring Janeane Garofalo, Ben Feldman and Luis Guzman, is an airborne romance tale about two people who meet on a plane.
The film, which was shot over nine days in three continents, is part of a marketing campaign to promote Virgin’s services to Los Angeles and will be featured as in-flight entertainment. ‘Departure Date’ will debut later this month at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Virgin also is negotiating to land a TV deal for the short movie.
