Hollywood headlines: A week in review
Angelina Jolie says that she has had a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carried a gene that made it extremely likely she would get breast cancer. The Oscar-winning actress and partner to Brad Pitt made the announcement in the form of an op-ed she wrote for Tuesday’s New York Times under the headline “My Medical Choice.” She writes that between early February and late April she completed three months of surgical procedures to remove both breasts. Jolie said that after genetic testing she learned she carries the “faulty” BRCA1 gene and had an 87 percent chance of getting the disease herself. Jolie will follow up with surgery to remove her ovaries, according to a report in People magazine.

Angeline Jolie undergoes preventative surgery, Kanye West’s Lamborghini gets damaged, and Zoe Saldana talks raising kids with another woman in this week’s Hollywood headlines.
Kirstie Alley slammed Abercrombie honcho Michael Jeffries this week, taking personal shots at the chief exec in the wake of a media blast started by a story explaining why the clothing retailer wouldn’t stock items in sizes larger than, well, large. In short, the company wants only cool kids coming through its doors. “Dear CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch...you are not cute and your head is HUGE. You need to stop wearing A&F clothing...just not attractive enough,” Alley said in the first of a series of tweets Tuesday, adding, “and Dear Abercrombie & Fitch CEO, If I ever meet you at a party, don’t stand close to me. Your veneers are blinding & could take down a G6 [airplane]. and lastly Dear CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, arent you the same douche frog that ok’d THONGS for six y/o girls??” But that wasn’t all.

The gate to Kim Kardashian’s driveway has shut on Kanye West’s very expensive Lamborghini. And no, that’s not a euphemism. The rapper, 35, in New York, was having his $750,000 Lamborghini Aventador delivered Tuesday to Kardashian’s L.A. mansion after it was serviced. But the very expensive car’s driver, who was probably nervous enough about driving the luxury ride, didn’t drive fast enough up the gated driveway and the electric barrier closed on both sides of the car, according to X17, which filmed the incident.

Zoe Saldana thinks she might raise her kids with another woman one day and is being coy about whether she’s had a relationship with one. The actress, who plays Starfleet Communications Offiicer Uhura in the sequel “Star Trek Into Darkness,” revealed more than just her well-toned body for the June Allure. The actress is also unveiling her open-mindedness in the issue, in which she also appears topless and nude. Uhura, played by Nichelle Nichols in the 1960s series and subsequent movies, is historically noted for having the first interracial TV kiss with William Shatner’s Captain Kirk on the original TV show. Now, in the new film, she’s involved with Kirk’s contentious friend Spock. So it isn’t that surprising that Saldana is brewing up controversy of her own.

Comedian Lisa Lampanelli has lost 106 pounds ¿- and no, she didn’t get rid of a skinny best friend. Lampanelli had gastric-sleeve surgery a year ago in April and has since shed all that weight off her formerly 248-pound frame. “I feel like I’ve reached the weight I’m supposed to be,” she told InTouch on Thursday. “I’m officially a skinny ...” ¿ um, let’s say a skinny best friend. In gastric sleeve surgery, or sleeve gastrectomy, the left side of the stomach is removed, according to the Mayo Clinic, leaving a stomach “about the size and shape of a banana.” In addition to the surgery, which the self-proclaimed “Queen of Mean” said isn’t a miracle cure, Lampanelli credits exercise and portion control.

They were just waiting for us to catch up!” Her new fiancé also called in during the fourth hour to weigh in on the news.

Danity Kane, the all-girl music group that got its start on MTV’s “Making the Band,” is reportedly reuniting ¿ without its patriarch, Diddy. The girl group, which earned fame with singles including “Damaged” but later broke up amid management issues in 2009, is said to have taken a meeting with a new manager, according to TMZ. Four of Danity Kane’s five original members ¿ Shannon Bex, Aundrea Fimbres, Dawn Richard and Aubrey O’Day ¿ took the lunch meeting at the Grove in L.A. on Monday. Fifth member Wanita “D. Woods” Woodgett was not at the lunch. The band, which launched in 2005 on the third season of the MTV competition series, had signed with Diddy’s Bad Boy label and released two No. 1 albums, one that was self-titled in 2006 and another called “Welcome to the Dollhouse” in 2008. But they were fired by the mega-producer in 2009 except for Richard, who became a member of Diddy-Dirty Money and later self-released a solo album, Billboard reported.
