The Game The L.A. rapper the Game has had, to put it lightly, his ups and downs in the last decade. His debut breakthrough of West Coast revivalism was a smash, but he followed it up with two skilled but deeply conflicted albums lamenting his separation from longtime mentor Dr. Dre and the Aftermath Records community. Night Dive The theme of this 18-and-older event is “science fair,” but there’s nothing nerdy about the after-hours celebration at Night Dive. Guests can unleash their inner mad scientist and enjoy live music from We Barbarians, Eugene & the 1914 and the Commotions, not to mention DJs, lectures on subjects such as octopuses and algal blooms and a special art exhibit from sculptor Bruce Gray. Pomona Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival The 31st biannual Pomona Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival returns to the Pomona Fairplex. Over the course of three days, novices and experts will find plenty to outfit their projects from more than 60 sewing, quilting, needle-art and crafts exhibitor booths (offering wares by local and national companies), exhibitor seminars and an array of “Make and Take” workshops, among them, no-sew quilted wall hangings, easy stained glass and beading projects for all skill levels. Cassavetes Double Feature The Cinefamily presents an evening dedicated to the innovative actor and filmmaker John Cassavetes, with a particular focus on his so-called jazz period. The program begins with “Too Late Blues,” starring crooner Bobby Darin as a jazz musician torn between success and personal integrity, and follows with selections from the TV series “Johnny Staccato,” in which Cassavetes plays a moody pianist who moonlights as a private detective.
