If the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. is the twice-bitten hand that feeds, the mouth that bites belongs to snark-toothed British comic Ricky Gervais, inexplicably invited back a third time to host “The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.” (NBC, 5 and 8 p.m.)

The 2004 sleeper “Napoleon Dynamite,” about the misadventures of a teenage doofus, was something of an acquired taste — in that you had to acquire the taste of a teenage doofus to enjoy it. Now it’s an animated sitcom. (Fox, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.)

MONDAY

“Betty White’s 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America’s Golden Girl” salutes the comic actress the night before she attains nonagenarian status, followed by her new hidden-camera show “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers.” (NBC, 8 and 9:30 p.m.)

TUESDAY

The long arm of the law grows longer still with the season premieres of “Justified,” the Kentucky-fried crime drama starring Timothy Olyphant, and the L.A.-set cop show “Southland,” now with Lucy Liu, above. (FX, 10 p.m.; TNT, 10 p.m.)

WEDNESDAY

She’s no Paula and he’s no Simon, but Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler acquitted themselves admirably last season and will once again join Randy Jackson at the judges table on the return of “American Idol.” (Fox, 8 p.m.; also Thu., 8 p.m.)

THURSDAY

Action-packed animation? Yup! Clever dialogue and adult situations? Yup and yup! An awesome voice cast including H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler and Jessica Walter? Triple yup! The spy-spoofery that is “Archer” is back with new episodes. (FX, 10 p.m.)

FRIDAY

It’s a night at the opera when Russian soprano Anna Netrebko sings the role of “Anna Bolena” on “Great Performances at the Met” and a day at the alt-rock races when Arcade Fire is featured on “Austin City Limits.” (KOCE, 9 p.m.; KLCS, 9 p.m.)

SATURDAY

No more Mr. Nice Guy: Rob Lowe, below, does a 180 from his cheery “Parks and Recreation” character as a womanizing Chicago-area cop suspected of foul play in the made-for-cable docudrama “Drew Peterson: Untouchable.” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.)
