Remembering Marilyn Monroe Five decades after her death, Monroe continues to captivate audiences. This program seeks to illuminate her mystique through newsreel clips, outtakes and the 1966 documentary “The Legend of Marilyn Monroe.” The film’s director, Terry Sanders, and Susan Bernard, author of the new book “Marilyn: Intimate Exposures,” will participate in a discussion after the screening. Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 7:30-9:30 p.m. Free. (310) 825-8787. cinema.ucla.edu.

MUSIC

The Good Lovelies The band has added some sass to folk music with its three-part harmonies, onstage banter and constant instrument-swapping shows. Expect highlights from the Good Lovelies’ most recent album, “Let the Rain Fall,” a tuneful ode to camaraderie. Smothers Theatre, Pepperdine University, 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu. 8 p.m. $15-$35. (310) 506-4522. arts.pepperdine.edu.

Alabama Shakes The fast-rising soul-indebted rock band is turning ears for its incendiary live sets, which equally channel the ghosts of Janis, Otis and Aretha while staying entirely of the moment. Troubadour, 9081 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. 9 p.m. $12. Troubadour.com.

Wilco Over the band’s 17-year career, Jeff Tweedy’s Wilco has gradually moved from a roots-rock band to something a bit more nebulous, as though the bandleader were with each album further distancing himself from his whiskey bottle and Levi’s past. The band is having fun not only with sound but also with structure on “The Whole Love,” without sacrificing catchiness. Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 7 p.m. $45. Wiltern.com.
