If you’ve waited till the last minute to get DVD presents for the holidays, here’s another collection of swell items guaranteed to please the movie buff in your life.
Most impressive is “Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection,” a 10-disc Blu-ray set from Warner Bros. that includes such Kubrick classics as “Lolita,” “Dr. Strangelove” and “2001: A Space Odyssey,” a brand-new “Kubrick Remembered” documentary and a handsome, 78-page hardcover book.
The “great things come in small packages” award goes to Universal’s super-nifty “Film Noir: 10-Movie Spotlight Collection” that includes some of the most splendid noirs imaginable, including “Double Indemnity,” “The Killers,” “Criss Cross” and “Touch of Evil.”
As for a personal favorite, that would have to be the 20-disc “Sgt. Bilko: The Complete Series” from Shout Factory, which contains all 142 episodes of what has to be one of the funniest series ever put on television. Just thinking about this show makes me laugh.
