Hole returns with classic ‘90s lineup

In recent years, the singer-songwriter Courtney Love has performed live under the guise of her classic band Hole. Fans might not have recognized the rest of the all-male group, however, which was comprised of hired guns.

No more. Love announced in an interview with the Quietus that she has reunited the most well-known lineup of Hole — guitarist Eric Erlandson, drummer Patty Schemel and bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur — to record new material.

This lineup, which disbanded in 2002, last performed on record together with 1998’s “Celebrity Skin.” Love had previously teased some kind of reunion when she posted a photo of herself and Erlandson on Facebook.

Love told the Quietus, “I started playing with Patty and Melissa and Eric, just to see how that was. We already played like three or four times in the last week.”

There are no details about what this new collaboration might entail as far as an album or tour. But Love is set to release a new single, “Wedding Day,” in support of a forthcoming British tour.

The news is a welcome return to a musical focus for Love, who most recently attracted attention for claiming she had found possible evidence of the missing Malaysian Airlines jet.
