Kanye West postpones Australian dates to work on new album

Kanye West’s “Yeezus” tour is bypassing Australia -- for now. Management for the hip-hop star revealed Tuesday that West’s work on a new album will prevent him from performing in May in Australia as originally planned.

That’s the bad news. The good news for West fans is that a follow-up to his polarizing 2013 album “Yeezus” is expected to hit before the end of the year.

“Due to unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album, scheduled for a 2014 release, Kanye West regretfully announces the postponement of his upcoming tour dates in Australia,” read a brief post on RocNation.

The dates affected stretched from May 2 through May 11 and included stops in Perth, Melbourne and more. The RocNation bulletin states that West will revisit Australia in early September, with tickets available on West’s site. Tickets from the May shows will be honored in the fall.

West is also working on a “Yeezus” film with director Hype Williams. While little information beyond a quick-cut trailer full of shots of the “Yeezus” tour has been released, West’s site pledges that the film is coming to theaters.

Published reports have linked the likes of Rick Rubin and Q-Tip to a new West album, although nothing official has been revealed by West.
