‘Better Call Saul’ debut breaks cable ratings records

Saul Goodman doesn’t have great luck as a struggling attorney. But the new drama revolving around his misadventures is off to a great start.
The debut of “Better Call Saul,” AMC’s prequel to the award-winning “Breaking Bad,” has been confirmed as the No. 1 series premiere in cable history among adults ages 18 to 49 and adults 25 to 54, according to Nielsen live/same-day ratings.
The two-night debut of the drama Feb. 8 and 9 drew a combined total of 15.6 million viewers, 9.7 million in adults 18-49 and 9.1 million in 25-54.
The viewership records were set by just the first half of the two-night premiere on Feb. 8, when 9.8 million viewers tuned in. The airing drew 6.1 million adults in the 18-49 group and 5.7 millon in 25-54.
The series, created by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, stars Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill, a hapless attorney who eventually becomes Saul Goodman.
