Shoe repair in Los Angeles
Shoes are made to last, but sometimes they need a little help along the way. Los Angeles is home to more than 200 registered shoe repair shops. Among the top tier -- for history quality and craftsmanship -- is Willie’s Shoe Service. Glimpsed in the workroom is manager Raul Ojeda. (Gary Friedman / Los Angeles Times)
Roberto Tuc refinishes a shoe destined for the wardrobe of the television show “Melrose Place.” In 1956, Willebaldo Rivera opened Willie’s across from Paramount Studios. Since relocated (but still nearby, on North Cahuenga Boulevard), the business continues to be a go-to place for the entertainment industry. Los Angeles Opera is the shop’s biggest client.
