Yikes: Truck crashes into Wurstkuche in Venice

A pickup truck crashed into sausage-and-beer hall Wurstküche in Venice about 9 p.m. Sunday after a police chase along Venice and Lincoln boulevards, according to the LAPD.

The police told KNBC that the truck hit a cyclist before crashing, and that the driver, identified by officers as a parolee, had been arrested. The cyclist was hospitalized with a broken leg, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Two customers at Wurstküche were also injured, according to the KNBC report.

The chase started a block from the beach after police noticed the driver of a white Ford pickup driving “in a reckless manner” at Venice Boulevard and Speedway (here’s a map), according to KNBC. When the driver wouldn’t stop for officers, the police followed the truck east toward Lincoln, according to LAPD.

The cyclist was struck at Lincoln and Brooks Avenue, and the truck crashed into Wurstküche at the corner of Vernon, according to police.

Photos posted at LA Weekly show damage to the facade of the restaurant.

A spokesman for Wurstküche wouldn’t comment on the incident but said management was still assessing when it would reopen. The Venice location of Wurstküche debuted a little more than a year ago.
