The Gardena High School collection is strong on California plein air paintings, such as this remarkable 1924 canvas by John Frost titled”Desert Twilight.”

The collection contains works by notable California artists from the early 20th century, including Edgar Payne (1883-1947). Though best known for his depictions of the High Sierra, he also painted oceanscapes, such as “Rockbound,” above, circa 1918.
