Earthquake: 2.9 quake strikes near Avalon, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 2.9 earthquake was reported Monday afternoon seven miles from Avalon, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:51 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 3.7 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 21 miles from San Pedro, 22 miles from Huntington Beach, and 22 miles from Rancho Palos Verdes.
In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
