A California Highway Patrol officer shot and wounded a man in Artesia early Saturday, officials said.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Pioneer Boulevard, just north of Artesia Boulevard, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi. The man was transported to a local hospital.
No further information was available on the man’s condition or the severity of his injuries. He was not identified.
The officer had intervened in a fight that had broken out between two men in a strip mall parking lot, KABC-TV reported. One of the men refused to comply with the officer’s command to put down the baseball bat he was holding, according to the report.
The officer was a member of CHP’s Santa Fe Springs division, Polizzi said.
