The five people injured Saturday after falling from Commerce Casino were painters who hit the pavement after scaffolding gave way, fire officials said Sunday.
The workers were painting the casino around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, when they fell about 15 feet, officials said. The painters suffered minor injuries including scrapes, but were “doing well” after being taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, said Capt. Mark Roberts, of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“They were sitting up and talking to us,” said Roberts, who responded to the call from Station 50. “It could have been horrible, but it wasn’t.”
Roberts said he believed the painters were contractors. A spokeswoman for Commerce Casino, which includes a 200-room hotel, declined to comment to the Los Angeles Times on Saturday. Representatives did not immediately return a phone message on Sunday.
